Method Statement - Installation and MEP of Manual & Electrical Shutter Doors

Introduction

The below mentioned scope of works is a comprehensive step by step mechanism for demolish and installation of shutter doors. The under discussion scope of works also encompasses general MEP Services of shutter doors.

Start of Works

  • Installation Technical Engineers must report to client/worksite office on arrival at the project site/facility.
  • Engineers must attend site technical and HSE induction if they are instructed to do so.
  • Prior the work start, Engineers must wear the correct PPE required for the job and/or as instructed by client/customer site.
  • Project or Installation Engineers must establish a prohibition zone using hazard warning tape and safety cones prior to works starting.
  • Engineers are to use only correct equipment for all access as dictated by the job and/or instructed by client/customer.
  • Engineers are to inspect and assess the requirements of the task. If dismantling of existing door is required, following step 2 first; if not required, follow step 3.

Dismantle Process

  • Visually inspect the area and ensure exclusion zone is in place.
  • Bring in all required equipment and materials into exclusion zone.
  • Bring the shutter door down to ground level (Manually or use of power).
  • Disconnect and isolate electrical power supply.
  • Position and secure ladders on either side of the shutter door (depending on height and width of door, scaffold tower maybe required central to the door).
  • Remove front canopy and inspect fittings including top clips.
  • Remove guide rail on one side to get approach to edge of shutter door.
  • Slats or Laths can now be removed in sections from the bottom up to barrel.
  • With help of portable secure ladders, remove top clips from barrel.
  • Cut off or disconnect barrel and motor from flags taking the weight in the process and bring to ground level (floor).
  • Eliminate or discard guides unless they are going to be used for the installation of next door.

Installation Process

  • Visually inspect the area and ensure exclusion zone is in place.
  • Bring in all required equipment and materials into exclusion zone.
  • Ensure power is disconnected and isolated.
  • Position and secure ladders on either side of the shutter door (depending on height and width of door, scaffold tower maybe required central to the door).
  • Install guide rail and flags.
  • With the help of portable ladders lift barrel into right position and secure to flags. If manual winding mechanism system, set pre-tension when installing barrel.
  • If winding mechanism system, locate and secure winding mechanism into place.
  • Reexamine that guide rail and barrel is properly secure ready for attaching shutter door.
  • With the help of portable ladders attach top clips and top slat/lath to prearranged holes on the barrel.
  • Ensure top clips are secure and working down attach sections of slats/laths to requirements.
  • Review and recheck that all parts are in correct order and all working parts have been lubricated properly ready for testing.
  • Prior wiring into mains, test motor and set limits via a test switch or test winding mechanism system.
  • When testing has taken place and limits are set, motor will be connected to mains.
  • Conclude one final check of installation and attach front canopy.
  • Clear area by maintain good housekeeping and report to site contact for hand over.

General Maintenance and Servicing

  • Visually inspect the area and ensure exclusion zone is in place.
  • Bring in all required equipment and materials into exclusion zone.
  • Visually inspect and test door operation.
  • Visually inspect guide rails.
  • Disconnect and isolate electrical power.
  • Manually feed shutter curtain downward to expose top clips. Then visually examine expose top clips.

If Top Clips show sign of damage:

  1. Report promptly to client/customer and person in charge of area of possibility of collapse of curtain / shutter.
  2. Make all persons within close proximity of potential possible severe hazard.
  3. Make arrangements to repair / change top clips.

If there is No damage to top clips:

  1. Check shutter curtain edges for any damage.
  2. Check guide rail for damage. Replace if required?
  3. Lubricate moving components with WD40 and/or Grease.
  4. Manually test door operation.
  5. Visually inspect and re-test again.
  6. Reconnect power and test under load.
  7. Door will be tested and inspected for correct operation, up and down, using the motor and/or winding mechanism.
  8. If door is operating as intended and correctly, report to site contact and hand over.

Hazards to Report:

  1. Damage to top clips
  2. Damage to guide rails due to mobile plant and or vehicle contact.
  3. Damage to curtain and or shutter due to mobile plant/vehicle contact.
  4. Damage due to vandalism

Clear Worksite

  • All waste is to be cleared from site. Metal components must be loaded onto works van.
  • Plastics sheets and warning hazard tape to be removed to waste bins.
  • Engineer and worksite contact to inspect area before works assumed to complete.

Note:

On very rare occasions a Hiab lorry maybe used to lift heavy barrels or shutter doors. Only authorized and competent persons will use the Hiab.
